General:
Organized by: Appalachian Mountain Club Lodge to Hut
Group: We had 11 members – Burn, Reynolds and Hunt family + 2 Guides (Tom and Andrew) and me, travelling together.
Dates: Aug 17th to Aug 20th
Route: AMC Highlands Lodge – AMC Mizpah Hut- Mt Jackson – Mizpah Hut – Mt Pierce – Mt Eisenhower – Mt Monroe (Sloop around) – AMC Lakes of the Clouds Hut – Mt Washington – Lakes of the Cloud Hut- Tuckarman Ravine – AMC Joe Dodge Lodge.
Highlights: Perfect weather; Amazing scenery; Good group; Patient guides; Delicious food at lodge/hut; Super impressive volunteer network of AMC. Couldn’t expect anything better- it was a perfect trip!
Lowlights: Really tough to think anything.
Numbers: Total Walk time: 19:40 hrs; Distance hiked: 18.4 Miles; Ascent / Descent: 6600′.
Few Notes:
- Stretch from Pierce to Washington overlaps Appalachian Trail. This is 5.1 Miles out of total length of 2,200 Miles for AT. So I did 0.23% of AT.
- Crossed lot AT thru-hikers – Hats off to them.
- Mt. Washington is highest peak north of Smokies and east of Rockies. On average temp on summit is 27 F and 110 days in year gets hurricane level winds (with annual average of 35 mph). So being on top with picture perfect weather was a blessing.
- Motto for New Hampshire state “Live Free or Die”.
